Bargain Value - February 2010

STOCK UP NOW FOR NEXT VALENTINE'S DAY

February 18th 2010 12:20
As frugal market contrarians, we recommend that everyone who
anticipates giving a Valentine's Day gift next year, to stock up
now for next year.

Right now, all those big box stores, supermarkets, pharmacy chains
and card stores out there in retail land want to move all their
Valentine's Day themed products out the door. That of course
means sale prices of up to 75 percent off of what you would
have paid last week.

Flowers of course ate perishable and out of the bargain hunters'
equation but candy, cards, and assorted V-Day paraphernalia
are in play.

The best place to store chocolate candy is in the freezer for the
long-term, lacking that, a cool place out of direct sunlight will do.

Have fun reaping the V-Day bargains on store shelves this week.
Consider it an investment not only in saving money you anticipate
spending in the future but an investment in your relationship with the
special someone in your life as well.

SAVE ON VALENTINE'S DAY

February 11th 2010 22:49
Valentine's Day is a mere two days away and your special
someone is expecting to be gifted with something, sincerely
heartfelt. Retailers, florists, & restauranteurs are counting on
all chump consumers, not to be frugal but lavish with their
expressions of love through $$$s...................

Let's think as practical consumers, and yes lovers, for a few
bits in your valuable time.

Does expressions of love and gratitude have to be expensive?
Here at Bargain Value we believe actions, positive emotions
and effort speak louder than credit card swiping at point of

sale terminals..

Here's a few frugal ideas for you frugal lovers out there to
showcase your feelings:

1. Instead of an expensive, crowded, Valentine's Day dinner
out, how about springing for the best quality supermarket fare
you both enjoy, cooking it to perfection, uncorking a bottle of
fine wine and savoring a high-quality evening at home?

2. Thinking of buying an expensive, perishable cut flower
arrangement? How about visiting your local live, potted plant
purveyor to see if you can score a lovely plant at half the cost
then cut flowers from South America? The gift that keeps
on giving long after cut flowers fade away. (No offense
intended South American readers)

3. Candy anyone? Let's consider what really counts inside
the heart-shaped nonsense packaging. Isn't it indeed the quality
& quantity of the product inside that counts? How about considering
high quality loose piece candy at a place like Lindt Chocolate and
repackaging it, nicely yourself?

4. Cards? Do your really want to help fill the coffers of corporations
like Hallmark with your hard-earned cash in exchange for an
over-priced card which will be trashed a few days after V-Day?
What about writing up your own, personal sentiments towards your
beloved and making your own card? Remember way back when in
grade school, many of us were taught to make cards for our parents?
Think we we can do know as adults--add a special picture or two and t
heir you go: instant happy tears.

Hope these ideas help. Wishing you a happy, frugal, yet meaningful
Valentine's Day.

CUT CELL PHONE CHARGES

February 9th 2010 12:28
Let's face it the cell phone business is a racket, one loaded
with "gotcha" charges. What's the captive overcharged
consumer to do?

First and foremost renegotiate your current contract if
it is filled with surcharges and fees. Talk to the little
cutsy girls in the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and other stores
who hawk these terrible contracts. Break the contract,
if you have to, and make an offer to settle the balance due
for these than the full amount.

Get rid of texting and email functions, use your laptop instead
at Wi-Fi hot spots.

Forget about entering in to another contract. Opt for a prepaid
plan instead where the amount is clearly defined. And of course,
study the fine print closely!

February 1st 2010 12:38
One of the best ways to cut the costs of engaging in hobbies
and recreational activities is to join an enthusiasts club. Clubs
have the buying clout to negotiate lower prices on products
