SAVE ON PLUMBING REPAIRS

November 25th 2011 18:36
Rather than call a plumber in for an expensive house call,
try to diagnose the problem on your own first. A good way
to learn about basic plumbing repairs is to build a home
library of plumbing books.

There are many good inexpensive plumbing repair books
currently available. Two excellent ones are:

--"The Plumber's Troubleshooting Guide" written by
master plumber, R.Dodge Woodson.

--"Do-It-Yourself Plumbing" by Max Alth.

Books like these contain a wealth of practical tips for
solving a wide variety of plumbing problems. There are

also a plethora of handyman oriented magazines with
plumbing sections to clip and save not to mention the
various web sites devoted to plumbing.

If after pinpointing the cause of a plumbing problem you feel
you don't have the necessary skills--soldering for instance--
it's best to call in a pro. But, you have saved the plumber
billable time by identifying the cause and location of the problem
which will be reflected on your bill.

It never hurts to keep adding to your personal plumbing reference
library. As your problem-solving waterworks skills improve you will
feel more confident tackling more difficult plumbing problems in
the future.

SAVE ON INJURY RECOVERY

November 23rd 2011 16:58
Have you ever strained or pulled a muscle that required an
ice pack to help calm down the swelling? Who hasn't?

Many doctors and physical trainers recommend that you
apply an ice pack to help your muscle tissues to heal,
along with rest.

Traditional ice packs sold in pharmacies and sports stores
are not inexpensive. Basically they are a plastic sack filled
with a gel that is placed in a freezer. They work pretty well
but how about this as an alternative?

Buy a few one pound bags of frozen peas from your favorite
grocer's freezer section. Stick 'em in your freezer and wait.

Next time, you or a love one has a muscle injury, simple pull
out your handy-dandy bag of reasonably-priced frozen peas
(preferably a store brand) and apply it to the muscle strain/pull
site.

The frozen peas in the bag will mold to the shape of your body
part until they defrost. When the peas defrost, stick them back
in the freezer to refreeze for another round or cook 'em up
for dinner!

SAVE ON TURKEY 2011

November 17th 2011 17:07
It's that time a year again when all across America millions
of households plan to purchase plump frozen poultry products
from their grocer's freezer case.

Turkeys are being trucked in, coast-to-coast as you read this.
Supermarket freezer cases are jam-packed with hefty birds
waiting to be roasted.

How to get the best deal on your Thanksgiving's oven roaster?
Start checking the online circulars now, the ones posted by
supermarkets in your area. Print out turkey coupons when
available.

Soon, snail mail supermarket ads will be arriving in mailboxes
all across the nation. COMPARE price per pound offerings.

Watch the add-ons. Although the cagey supermarket chains
may position their turkeys as a loss-leader product, rest assured
all the Thanksgiving Day meal fixings will be full price.

This week is a good time to search for sales on vegetables, stuffing
and gravy mixes. Next week, Turkeys will be priced to move out
the door fast. After all, the birds take up lots of expensive, prime
freezer space!
