The Birthday Tracker

One area I’ve come up short in bargain hunting this past year is the area of gift giving. It’s not that I’ve spent “too much” usually, but rather that I’ve not planned my spending so I’ve not gotten the optimal gift.
Indeed, it seems like birthdays, Father’s Day, and Mother’s Days are crisis of epic proportion, but they shouldn’t be! We all know these days are coming, so why not plan for them?
Here’s a plan I’m going to implement for the New Year and if you follow along with me, not only will you find yourself getting better bargains, but you’ll also get more thoughtful gifts for relatives:
1) Make a list of all persons that you plan on giving gifts to and for what occasion, separate it by date:
On my side of the family, there are four birthdays, on my wife’s there are three that we need to plan to buy presents for. We also can add in all the Christmas presents and additional father’s and mother’s day presents, so we have: seven Christmas Presents, seven Birthday Present four Mother’s and Father’s day Presents to give us a total of 18 presents to buy (not counting our own.)
\ 2) When you go somewhere, keep your eye open for presents.
Stores like Big Lots or Dollar Plus stores can be great sources of presents. Your ordinary shopping places may be where you find a well-priced gift.
2) Go Saling
Garage Saling. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure and you may find a great present in great condition that is matched perfectly to your gift buying target’s need. You’ll certainly find gifts you wouldn’t have if you were left to go down to Wal-Mart at the last minute.
3) Ship Early
Buying the present early also gives you the ability to ship early. What this means? Savings. Parcel post is usually cheaper than priority mail or express mail.
So if we can follow this, we’ll:
1) Save money
2) Buy better presents
3) Not have a year-end crunch around Christmas.
Sounds like a plan, care to join me?
