The World's Biggest Classifieds Page

September 26th 2006 23:55
As we talk about bargain hunting resources, one of the newest has created a lot of buzz. It’s called Craig’s List. Craig’s list amounts to the world’s largest advertising medium, stretching across America and now the world.

Craig’s list used to be mainly a metropolitan phenomena, but it is now thriving in smaller states and cities. In Idaho, more than 9,000 items are listed for sale.

What you’ll find on Craig’s list are what can be called “motivated sellers.” They want to sell and quick. Most want no hassle or haggle. The good news is, that if they have what you’re looking for, you can have a bargain quite easily.

There are several categories used on Craig’s list to cover the wide variety of items that people sell, including baby/kids (clothing and toys), cds/dvds/vhs, and collectibles. If you’re looking to start a business selling stuff on E-bay, with a little research Craig’s list could be a great place to start.

There are fourth things that are particularly interesting on Craig’s list. The first is that it’s a huge repository of used cars for sale, many of them with posted pictures. This really puts you in control as a car buyer. You’ve got a very wide selection of vehicles to choose from, including many that are not listed in the newspaper. As always when purchasing a used car, you’ll want to get it checked out, but still Craig’s list is a great source for good used cars, trucks, and motorcycles at a reasonable price.

The second benefit for bargain hunters is the garage sale listings. These aren’t seriously exciting if you take the newspaper. But if you’re a garage sale junkie, this allows you to pick up on some sales that might not even make the local paper.

The third thing I find very interesting is the barter section. Most of you have no doubt heard the story of Kyle McDonald, the Canadian who began with one red paperclip and through a series of progressive trades got a house. There’s nothing so exciting in most Craig’s list trades, but you may find your junk could be another man’s treasure and vice versa. Best part of the barter deals is that you’re trading your old junk for someone else’s junk, which means no loss of money.

The final thing that’s very nice on Craig’s List is the free section. Now, I’ll not claim that most of this stuff is high quality, but you can find a diamond in the rough if something’s there that you need. For example if you need sod, an offer for free sod makes a lot of sense. If you don’t, common sense should prevail.

To access Craig’s List, go to the main site and look at the far right hand side. If you live in one of the major cities that Craig’s list has specialized listings in, click on it, otherwise go two columns to the left and click on your state. Depending on the size of the state, it may ask you to choose a region. Do that, and then you’ll be taken to a page with a series of columns.

At Craig’s List, the “for sale” items are located in the middle of the page. You can also find a lot more on Craig’s list, particularly if you’re looking for jobs, personals ads, and apartments. It’s truly a great resource that’s only going to grow in popularity.
