DISCOUNT FOOD STORE STRATEGIES

Ever shop in those off price discount food stores that offer closeout food products?

They go by various monikers throughout North America but for
the most part, "discount food," or "liquidation" is somewhere in
their names.

They usually offer canned, boxed and bottled products that supermarket
chains, warehouse clubs, or other retailers want to clear off their shelves.

Sometimes the products' packaging is damaged, hence the
nickname for the stores which sell this mixed bag of merchandise:
"dented can stores."

In most cases, there's nothing wrong with the merchandise offered
for sale in these stores. So what if the box or can is a little beat-up?
As long as the food product inside the container is still sealed the
quality is the same as a pristine looking box or can.

In most cases, shoppers can save at least 25 percent on name brand
products at "dented can store" prices. The caveat is: on any given
week you may not find the exact product you are looking for.

The key to shopping at these discount food stores is to be flexible and
thinking about stocking up on nonperishable staples that you know you'll
use within a month or so.

In many cases, the discount food stores themselves are overstocked
on one particular item they got an exceptional good deal on. To move
these products, these stores offer "buy two, get one free" offers. Watch
for these promotions to really save on a wide assortment of items.

Many times, if you ask, you can cut your own deal with the owner of
these stores. Say for instance you see twenty bags of coffee that you
enjoy offered for $1 per bag. Ask the owner what price he'll give if you

bought the entire stock.

Another important strategy is to check back every other week or so
with discount food stores. The stock flips constantly and new products
at closeout prices arrive daily.

If you ask, many of these discount food stores also offer senior citizen
discounts of 10 percent, but you have to ask for the discount.

Lastly, it's important to know the current retail prices of various items
before shopping in discount food stores. Not everything on the shelves
can beat supermarket sale prices.
