Don't Buy Without the Details
November 16th 2006 07:22
The devil is in the details, they always say, and not getting the details right will kill you. In addition to the numerous bargains I’ve gotten off Ebay, I’ve also got some things I really didn’t mean to by not reading the description fully. Once I thought I was bidding on a DVD Writer drive and only got the case. Wow! Talk about confusion.
To avoid getting the wrong item, read the whole description before purchasing anything off Ebay or online. Important questions to be sure of are:
-size
-functionality
-the opinions of other users
Size is underrated. It’s easy to forget that an item may appear a different size on Ebay than it is in real life. For example, I was bidding on a sporran for my kilt and was amazed at the bargain I got until I received the sporran and found out it was made for a child’s kilt!
Functionality is very important, particularly when you’re purchasing electronics. When looking for my digital camcorder, I researched whether the camera I wanted to buy had the features I needed, such as an ability to record audio. There were many less expensive cameras I passed up because they simply would not give sound. As I illustrated at the beginning, not having all the details can turn a bargain into a bust.
One key recommendation I have when purchasing an item off of Ebay or another site without comprehensive reviews of products is to do a search of Amazon to find out what other people have written about the product. This has saved me from making many purchases of inferior products.
When you’re buying something, take the process seriously. Make sure you’ve got the right product to meet your needs and an honest seller, then enjoy your purchase.
