HAVE A SUPERMARKET PLAN
May 5th 2010 16:28
Most savvy shoppers enter a supermarket armed with a list, but
how many actually create a plan and stick to it? A well planned
shopping foray into enemy territory, dominated by sophisticated
marketeers hoping to part you with your hard-earned funds, will
save you big bucks each time you enter their domain.
We all know supermarkets are designed to part you from your
money in subtle ways: impulse purchases, attractive displays,
fat ladies offering free samples of products, background music,
big signs, kid friendly aisles, the list goes on and on.
To counteract the urge to spend more than necessary, write up
a floor plan of your usual supermarket haunt. Label the diagram
with numbers. For instance, I know fresh fish and meat spoil, so
I'll leave them in their refrigerated cases as long as possible, say make
it my last stop.
Canned goods would be a good Number One on my hit list, followed
by pet supplies, bakery items, then perhaps produce. Frozen foods
could be second to last.
Another critical strategy is to know where the deeply discounted
items are displayed like produce, meat, dairy and seafood that is
ready to pass their "sell-by" dates. Check those locations out
before visiting the full-price venues.
It's all part of playing the game folks. The money saving game that
allows you to eat well for less!
