candle making, farming, baking, jam preparation or even
operating breweries and wineries.
A rather unique monastic enterprise is conducted by the
brothers of the New Melleray Abbey, a cloistered community
of Trappist monks in Peosta, Iowa. The brothers make
handmade caskets of oak and walnut from lumber they
harvest on their land.
Prices range from US$975 for a simple oak casket to
