REUSE THOSE OLD PILL VIALS
December 5th 2011 16:25
You know all those little orange pill vials the druggist
puts your prescription meds in? Besides holding pills
they can be reused for a new purpose around the home.
After they are empty of meds, many recycling centers will
accept them to grind up, but why waste these neat little
containers.
Not only are they airtight and colored to diffuse unnecessary
light damage to the product inside but they are also a compact
size---perfect for storing small amounts of culinary spices.
Rather than paying inflated supermarket prices for pre-packaged
spices distributed by large corporations, look for a "bulk"
spice purveyor in your area or on the web.
Not only are bulk spices less expensive to buy but you have
the added benefit of purchasing only the amount you need.
Smaller amounts stay fresher longer.
Many co-op markets and other retail bulk spices purveyors
provide the customer with a plastic bag to bring the herbs home.
Once you get home, carefully pour--use a small culinary funnel--
into an old prescription pill vial, one that has been rinsed out and
dried, of course.
Cap the vial, label and date the contents, place the hand vial in your
spice cabinet and there you go!
