Let's face it, supermarket produce sections are generally speaking
over-priced. Why do you think that it's the first section you see
when you come into most supermarkets?
Supermarket chains spend quite a few bucks and efforts on marketing
their colorful produce at hefty markups. They even spray the heck out
of it with less than healthy water just to keep it appearing fresh.
However, like everything else, produce has a limited attractive shelf life.
So to move the fruits and veggies out the door before they rot on the
display racks, many supermarkets have small reduced price product
sections.
For the most part, the produce is just about to turn brown, but not quite
yet, so you can purchase at it at reasonable prices. Just be sure to
remember to use the stuff within a day or two, and of course, wash it well.
Sometimes if you ask the produce guy putting out his wares,
he or she will steer you to the items about to be marked down.
It pays to be friendly and chatty with grocery store clerks. Typically
they are bored to death with their mundane thankless tasks and are
grateful for the chance to chat with a customer.
Another tip: there's usually at least one greatly reduced priced loss
