SAVE WITH ELECTRIC CARS
November 23rd 2009 18:13
If you'd like to slash your overpriced gasoline costs down to well,
zero--start planning to buy an electric car next year! Almost
every major automobile manufacturer, even, Chrysler has one
in the preproduction or planning stages.
The most reasonably priced one slated for next year's release
is Nissan's Leaf starting around US$26,000. Next up in the
realistically priced category is the Chevy Volt in the 40 grand
range.
Electric cars are nothing new, just a rehashing of an old
concept that was squashed by Big Oil interests in the World
War I decade. Manhattan had electrically powered taxi
cabs in 1898!
But Big Oil corporations did not like Henry Ford and Thomas
Edison's plan to mass produced electric cars with parking
meter sized recharge stations throughout America.
Our battery technology is evolving everyday for the better--
unlike Edison's doomed storage batteries. In fact, a company
called Coulomb Technologies is already producing electric car
"charging stations" for 57 customers worldwide including
McDonald's!
What does that mean for us frugal motorists? Good news. We'll
be able to charge our electric cars overnight at home and then
top off the charge at retail outlets like McDonalds, supermarkets,
municipally owned and privately owned charger outlets while going
about our daily business.
Granted we've got a long way to go to get charger outlets as prevalent
as gasoline stations, but the handwriting is on the wall: the electric car
will proliferate in the coming decade. So, start thinking about acquiring
onein the years ahead to save on transportation costs.
